Actors Who Have Been Missing In Action In 2016

There are some actors whom are staples in Nollywood films. When in a year they fail to feature in any major movie, it calls for concern. We look at top 10 Nollywood actors who were missing in action this year and try to deduce why they have not been active in 2016.

Jim Iyke
Since his reality show, ‘Unscripted’ ended, Jim Iyke has been very scarce in movies. He has failed to catch the fancy of movie makers. He also has been faced with stiff competition as his Bad Boy persona has been taken over by younger, hungrier and more handsome actors.
The last we heard of him was in the movie, ‘Stalker’, which was produced last year. One would have thought 2016 was the year of rebound for the actor, but he has failed to turn up after all.
Osita Iheme
Osita, one half of the dynamic duo of Aki and Pawa paw seems to have vanished into thin air. The shortie, who many had touted to be the bigger actor of the duo is not living to expectations. He has not been featuring in any movie and is hardly seen at events. The other shortie, Chinedu Ikedieze, has been doing numerous movies and is even staring on the daily comedy show, ‘The Johnsons’.
Nonso Diobi
The actor is seriously missing in action but for good reason. Nonso Diobi who is always on one set or the other at all times was hospitalised on April 17 of this year. He had been involved in an accident which almost left him walking with a stick. He has, however, recovered fully and is back on his two feet. Despite this, he has not been featured in a movie in the recent times. Probably he is taking it easy and waiting for the proper time to bounce back to action. We most likely will see him better in 2017.
Nkem Owoh
Though a part of the old guard, Nkem Owoh has always been able to stand his own in the industry. He is even currently the leading man in the MTN advert campaign. However, when it comes to his primary constituency, he has been found wanting.
Owoh has not been very busy in 2016 and not one notable movie has his name in the credit line. Despite his silence this year, he continues to be a big figure in the movie industry and more should be expected of him in years to come.
Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde
For the second year running, actress Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde has been relegated to social media where she shares picture and videos of her family celebrating. She gets retweets and shares, but her core fans want to see her on the screens.
With her lofty status, Omotola is seen as one of the biggest actors in Nollywood. She is also one of the most expensive to book, industry insiders say.
This however is also responsible for her lack of movie jobs. Producers see her as too expensive while they have younger and far cheaper options that can get the job done just as well.
Omotola will continue to be an icon in the industry.
Mercy Johnson
After ‘Thy will be done’, which was released last year, actress Mercy Johnson has gone AWOL. The actress who is seen on at least one movie every month is now turning into a stranger. No one knows why she has decided to shy away from movie sets but her fans are those suffering for it.
Those close to her, however, explained that the actress has been trying to be a hands-on mum with a rapidly growing family. The 31-year-old movie star gave birth to her third child in December last year and nursing her has taken pretty much of her in the year ending.
With such full hands, it is understandable she takes a break from acting. We hope to see her back soon.
Ramsey Nouah
Actor, Ramsey Nouah, has been going off to obscurity slowly as he hardly features in movies anymore. But he got a big break last year when he featured in Ayo Makun’s ’30 Days in Atlanta’. The movie became a big hit shooting Nouah back to the limelight. But this did not last.
One would have thought the movie would have been followed by numerous other movies for the actor but this did not happen. This however does not mean the actor is a write-off. Nouah is very good at springing surprises.
Desmond Elliot
Actor Desmond Elliot is not acting in recent times and even the blind knows why. Since he became a legislator in Lagos, his focus has moved from his main constituency, which is acting, to his other main constituency, the people of Surulere.
Despite his non-appearance in movies, the actor has continued to remain visible in the industry. He attends movie premieres, entertainment forums and even still leaves a post or two on social media.
He is yet to say if he will be going back to movies after his term in the Lagos parliament.
John Okafor
Mr. Ibu as he is popularly known continues to be one of the funniest comic actors in the movie industry. He does not need to say a word to make you laugh. There was a time that he dominated all the comedy movies made in the country. But in 2016, he seems to have simmered down. Reason for this is unknown but it is glaring that many new acts are filling up his space.
Genevieve Nnaji
If Omotola is the princess of Nollywood, Genevieve is the duchess. Like Omotola, she has been AWOL and did not feature in any big movie this year. She is over-hyped and over-priced as well, and this has its own consequences.
