Delta govt spends N32bn on road construction despite the Buhari hardship

ASABA —DELTA State Government, yesterday, said it had spent over N32 billion on road construction from 2015 to 2016.

State Commissioner for Works, Mr James Augoye, who disclosed this during a ministerial briefing organised by the state’s Ministry of Information in Asaba, said road development and construction were the backbone for the achievement of the SMART agenda of the government.
Saying the ministry had embarked on 71 road projects at a total cost of N32.905 billion for construction between May 2015 and November 2016, covering over 282 kilometres of roads and 136 kilometres of concrete lined drains, he said, “The value of projects currently being handled by the ministry, including those inherited from the previous administration, is put at about N110 billion and it covers 381 kilometres of roads.”
Also at the briefing, the Secretary to Delta State Government, SSG, Mr Festus Ovie-Agas said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration has achieved a lot of results in peace building among Deltans which, according to him, has made the state conducive for investments.
Agas said the 41-member peace building and advisory council inaugurated by Governor Okowa had been modified to include settlement of disputes among communities and ensuring peace building platforms aimed at socio-political stability of the state.
